The Department of Special Education provides a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment for Kindergarten through 12th grade students who meet Missouri disability criteria. For children ages three through five, the Early Childhood Special Education program offers similar services for children demonstrating disabilities or significant developmental delays. For K-12 students, appropriate services are offered in regular and special education settings. The related services of speech and language therapies, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are also provided as needed. Services are provided in each district school building with the Early Childhood Special Education program currently being housed at Prairie Branch Elementary School. Parents with concerns who believe a disability may be the basis for the problems with their child's school progress can contact the special education coordinator in the child's school building, the Principal, the child's Guidance Counselor, or the Director of Special Education.
