Training Programs: Course Descriptions
Gentle Teacher Training with John McGee, Ph D.
Jan 19 to Jan 22, 2009 – 10 AM to 3:30 PM.
Gentle Teaching does not focus on compliance or obedience, but focuses on teaching individuals to feel safe with others. In order for this to happen, we must look at ourselves as caregivers. Looking at ourselves is assessing how we use our Tools (our hands, eyes, words and presence) to facilitate an understanding of safety with those we work with.
Eitas, in a continuing project to facilitate a culture of gentleness and a culture of life for people with
developmental disabilities in Jackson County, is providing a series of trainings to develop a cadre of Gentle Teachers. Under the direction of Dr. John J. McGee, successful participants in this
3. 5 day training will be certified as Gentle Teachers with the option of continuing training to become Gentle Teaching Mentors. Additional 4.5 day sessions will be held in February, April and June 2009.
Participants must currently support people with developmental disabilities in Jackson Co.
Attendance at all 3.5 days of training is required for certification as a Gentle Teacher
