Community Outreach

The Community Outreach team connects individuals with resources, while educating the public on issues facing people with developmental disabilities. This may involve giving presentations at events, serving in regional collaborative roles, or representing eitas at public functions. Community Outreach also works with people on an individual basis on issues like enrolling in programs, locating transportation, and attaining employment.

Supports through the Community Outreach Department are provided through Missouri Senate Bill 40 (SB40) funding, and therefore there is no fee for supports. Because of this, to receive supports through the Community Outreach Department someone must be determined eligible. They must be a resident of Jackson County, Missouri and individuals also must be diagnosed with a developmental disability. If they are determined eligible, they will be assigned to a member of our team, who will follow-up on their support needs.

Examples of the types of services the Community Outreach team performs are:

  • Assisting someone with completing their Medicaid application

  • Assisting someone in applying for Social Security

  • Assisting someone in applying for food stamps

  • Connecting people with person-centered disability information

  • Connecting people with available community resources, including disability and non-disability related resources regarding employment, community living, relationships, and recreation

  • Connecting people with support groups, disability-specific groups, family organizations, and family support groups

  • Assisting someone with completing SB40 funding requests to support a variety of needs

  • Assisting someone in completing transportation requests for eitas and KCATA transportation programs
